Lyrics
“I used to be a King.”
(Aeolian, mythic, and untrue)
“I used to be a King,”
he murmurs,
in the tone of a forgotten chord
that once tried to resolve
and never quite made it home.
The hills do not remember him.
The old stones do not stir.
Even the wind —
that faithful archivist of fallen empires —
searches its long memory
and finds nothing but dust.
He speaks as though his shadow
once stretched across kingdoms,
but the only realm he ever ruled
was a narrow path of footprints
quickly taken back by the rain.
His claim drifts in the air,
minor, hollow,
like a melody missing its final step —
a promise that never ripened,
a crown that never fit,
a throne carved from the idea of longing.
He was never a King.
But the lie has a music to it,
and in Aeolian mode,
even a lie can sound
like something ancient
that almost mattered.
