Backyard Beginnings

We met in her brother’s backyard Summer grass and a borrowed chair Didn’t know twenty years would start Right there in the open air Life was simple, hearts were young Didn’t have a map or plan But somehow fate was listening When she reached out for my hand I wouldn’t be who I am without her She gave me more than I deserve When the road got rough, she stayed right there Loving me through every curve Yeah we slipped once, but love came back stronger Like it always somehow does If I had one life and one choice to make I’d choose her every time because She’s the life of every party Dancing when the floor’s still bare Laughs so loud it fills the room Like the whole world’s listening to her She’s beautiful, amazing Got a fire that never fades And I’ve seen heaven in her eyes Watching Viviana and Adalina play West Exeter nights Just us and the quiet stars To Bonaire two wheels no plans Didn’t need to go far Golden Girls on the TV glow Falling asleep side by side Those little moments built a life I wouldn’t trade for anything in time I wouldn’t be who I am without her She’s my reason she’s my truth Through the best years and the hard ones too She’s been everything I’d choose Love ain’t perfect but it’s real And that’s the part that matters most From a backyard start to forever now She’s the one I love the most So here’s to Stephanie my heart Every mile every scar I wouldn’t change a single thing About who We met in her brother’s backyard Summer grass and a borrowed chair Didn’t know twenty years would start Right there in the open air Life was simple, hearts were young Didn’t have a map or plan But somehow fate was listening When she reached out for my hand I wouldn’t be who I am without her She gave me more than I deserve When the road got rough, she stayed right there Loving me through every curve Yeah we slipped once, but love came back stronger Like it always somehow does If I had one life and one choice to make I’d choose her every time because She’s the life of every party Dancing when the floor’s still bare Laughs so loud it fills the room Like the whole world’s listening to her She’s beautiful and funny Got a fire that never fades And I’ve seen heaven in her eyes Watching Viviana and Adalina play West Exeter nights riding bikes Just us and the quiet stars Bonaire winds two wheels no plans Didn’t need to go far Golden Girls on the TV glow Falling asleep side by side Those little moments built a life I wouldn’t trade for anything in time I wouldn’t be who I am without her She’s my reason she’s my truth Through the best years and the hard ones too She’s been everything I’d choose Love ain’t perfect but it’s real And that’s the part that matters most From a backyard start to forever now She’s the one I love the most So here’s to Stephanie my heart Every mile every scar I wouldn’t change a single thing About who we are we are
