“Britishness

it’s always fascinating when politicians decide they’re the official casting directors for “Britishness.” One minute they’re celebrating a proudly diverse Britain; the next, they’re implying there’s a correct way to sound, act, or present to qualify—preferably one that looks suspiciously like them. The irony is thick: loudly claiming superior British values while policing who else is “British enough.” Apparently, citizenship is one thing—but eligibility now depends on tone, confidence, and how convincingly you perform patriotism on camera. It’s not about where you’re from, they insist. It’s about “culture.” Which, coincidentally, always seems to exclude the very people they lecture.
